Devolo dLAN 200 AVplus Single Adapter
Product code: 66733
The new HomePlug AV adapter from devolo provides extra convenience for
your private home network with its integrated electrical socket and
mains filter. The integrated electrical socket enables additional
terminal devices or multiple sockets to be connected to the adapter
just like to a normal wall socket. No power supply is lost. And the
integrated filter significantly improves data transmission in the home
network.
The dLAN 200 AVplus transmits bandwidthintensive data easily and
securely over the existing electrical wiring – without installation
effort. In addition, the "Quality of Service" function prioritises the
bandwidth requirement of the data traffic, which has a speed of 200
Mbps, thus ensuring maximum voice and video reproduction. TV and video
images are received and displayed with absolute smoothness. QoS also
guarantees the clear, instant reproduction of voice data, even when
other applications are running on the network at the same time. QoS
makes your network a joy to use!
Which operating systems are compatible with dLAN 200 AV devices? dLAN® 200 AV devices are supported by Windows 98/ME/2000/XP/Vista/7, Linux and Mac OS-X.
Does the devolo dLAN adapter have to be plugged directly into the wall socket, or can it also be plugged into an extension or (switched) power strip? Yes. In rare cases, power strips with integrated surge protectors can impair performance; therefore, devolo recommends plugging the dLAN® adapter directly into a wall outlet.
Can users of my dLAN network surf the Internet, play online games, use Internet telephony and watch videos at the same time? Yes. The high data rate and reliable Quality-of-Service (QoS) functions supported by devolo dLAN 200 AV devices are the basis for the simultaneous use of triple-play multimedia applications.
My house has different ring mains for lighting and sockets both upstairs and downstairs. Can dLAN also establish a connection from one ring to another? Yes. As long as all rings come back to a central consumer unit (electricity meter) this forms the link.
Do dLAN 200 AV devices feature security mechanisms to protect the network against intruders? Yes. dLAN 200 AV devices feature AES 128 security. This is a combination of 128-bit AES encryption and a time lock when entering a new password that effectively protects your dLAN against unauthorised access. Two possible approaches are conceivable for attacks, both of which are effectively thwarted by AES pro encryption. An example would be the interception of the encrypted raw data. The encrypted raw data could provide clues to the key, thus allowing access to the unencrypted raw data. In dLAN technology, however, it is not possible to intercept the encrypted raw data from the electrical wiring, as the chip does not send encrypted data directly to the network interface. The chip not only encrypts the signal, but also modulates it directly, ensuring that it is only possible to intercept modulated data. That would be pointless, however, as an attacker would not have any way to demodulate the data.
Does the dLAN adapter switch to power-save mode when there is no traffic? "No, the dLAN adapters switch to power-save mode if no Ethernet link (an electrical signal) is present. Thus they switch over whenever either: - No Ethernet cable is plugged in. - The connected device is switched off (PCs with Wake on LAN function can be an exception). - The connected device stops providing the Ethernet link.
Are standard 100 Mbps network adapters fast enough for devolo dLAN 200 AV adapters, or are Gigabit Ethernet adapters required for use with dLAN 200 AV adapters? Under ideal conditions, devolo dLAN 200 AV adapters have a physical gross data rate of up to 200 Mbps. The effective net data rate is somewhat lower. A 100-Mbps network adapter is therefore adequate in most cases to operate the devolo dLAN 200 AV adapter.
