RAID Modes

HIVE offers multiple RAID options to suit your data protection requirements. While units are shipped preconfigured for RAID 5, users can easily select between the following options.

RAID 0 (Striping)
This setting allows for maximum performance as data is striped across the drives, utilizing the full speed of the individual hard disks. However, this setting offers no redundancy, and thus little protection against data loss. This setting maximizes usable drive capacity.

RAID 1 (Mirroring)
This setting makes a real-time copy of all data as it is written to a drive. If one of the drives fails, it has an exact duplicate in the array, so data can be accessed im- mediately. This setting offers the lowest total usable drive capacity.
